"“Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.” (Hebrews 2:14–15, NIV)
In the person of Jesus, God entered into our humanity, experiencing life in the flesh so that He could defeat the ultimate enemy: death. By His death on the cross, He broke the power of the devil, who held the fear of death over us. Jesus’ victory over death has set us free from the fear and bondage that once controlled us. His resurrection assures us that death is not the end but the beginning of eternal life.
Lent is a time to reflect on this powerful truth: Jesus not only died for our sins but also conquered death itself. We no longer need to fear death or be enslaved by its power because of what Christ has done for us.
Challenge: Are there areas in your life where fear is holding you back from living fully in Christ’s victory over death? How can you embrace the freedom He offers?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for defeating death and freeing us from fear. Help me to live boldly in the freedom You have given, trusting in Your victory over death. Amen."
