“Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” (John 12:23–26, NIV)

In these verses, Jesus teaches a powerful truth: True life comes through dying to ourselves. Just as a seed must die to bear fruit, we must die to our selfish desires in order to experience the fullness of life in Christ. This doesn’t mean hating ourselves but rather surrendering our will, our comforts, and our desires to follow Jesus. It’s about living with an eternal perspective—choosing His way over our own.

Lent calls us to reflect on areas where we’re holding onto selfishness, pride, or fear. Only when we let go of these things can we experience the abundant life Jesus promises.

Challenge: What areas of your life do you need to surrender to God today? How can you die to self in order to live fully for Christ?

Prayer: Lord, help me to die to myself daily so that I may bear fruit for Your kingdom. Teach me to follow You and trust that true life is found in surrender. Amen.
